The
Ray Iles Large Drawknife - Mike Abbott Pattern is a versatile medium-sized drawknife, with a 8 1/2" cutting edge, ideal for a wide range of green woodworking tasks. It is identical to the Ray Iles Large Drawknife except the handles have been cranked slightly down to permit using it bevel-up or bevel-down. Good control is possible with this drawknife using it in either orientation, and the handles are cranked slightly out for extra clearance.
With its capability to efficiently prepare billets for the pole lathe or trim components for riven gates, it's a staple tool for many professional woodworkers. This drawknife stands out for its precise design and quality materials. Notably, while the standard handle is crafted from beech, there is an occasional availability of unique native hardwood handles, offering both durability and aesthetic appeal. Choose your preferred handle type using the drop-down box above.
This tool is best paired with a shave horse or similar holding device to maximise control during use. Proudly made in the UK by one of the country's leading toolmakers, Ray Iles Large Drawknife is a testament to exceptional craftsmanship and design.
